Technology to Prevent Drunk Driving Accidents

Sunday, July 27, 2014

Many of the strategies that are used to help prevent drunk driving accidents in Las Vegas are getting outdated. Fortunately, there is an new range of technology that now helps people get home safe even when they are drunk.

For years now, safety advocates have recommended the use of a designated driver to drop you off home when you're out drinking. In the future however, a designated driver may not be as necessary a part of anti-drunk driving strategies as it is now. There are a number of technologies out there on the market that are actually doing a very good job of helping reduce the risk of drunk driving accidents.

One such technology is the Uber ridesharing taxi service. Recently, the company released data which seems to suggest that since its introduction in the market, there has been a drop in drunk driving accidents in several cities in the country. Uber claims that the number of DUI arrests in Los Angeles since the app was launched in 2012 have also dropped.

Uber allows people to connect with a rideshare near them. The app is very popular, and according to Uber, data seems to indicate that in some cities, the peak hours for using the app are between the hours of midnight and 4 AM. It is probably not a coincidence that those are also the hours that see the highest incidences of DUI. Clearly, many people are using the app to find a safe ride home when they are in no condition to drive.

The increasing use of technology to reduce the risk of drunk driving is a trend that any Las Vegas car accident lawyer would support wholeheartedly.
