Las Vegas Boy Crushed to Death by Automatic Gate

Monday, March 02, 2015

An 8-year-old boy died a tragic death recently, when he was crushed to death by an automatic gate in his LA Vegas community.

The incident occurred in a Las Vegas neighborhood, and the boy seems to have been a resident of the neighborhood. The boy was attempting to crawl through an open space, where the arm of the gate moves through when it opens and closes, and then realized that the gate sensor had become activated by another boy. The gate began to open, and the boy attempted to draw away from the gate in time, but was unable to. He suffered severe crushing injuries, blunt force, compression injuries.

Police reported to the scene of the accident, and rushed the boy to the hospital. However, his injuries were very serious, and he was pronounced dead.

This is a terrible tragedy, and our hearts go out to the parents of the boy. Investigations into the incident are likely to begin soon. So far, police are reporting that this was a tragic incident and nothing more.

The possibility of better safety and security, especially for children, in gated and residential communities is one of the reasons why people move to such communities in the first place. However, accidents can occur even in a gated community. When these accidents occur, the community owners should be liable for negligence.

However, proving that owners of the property were liable for negligence in your case and liable for damages is not always easy. While a gated community is responsible for providing a certain amount of security for all residents, homeowners and residents are also required to exercise caution and look out for their own safety. Speak to a Las Vegas personal injury lawyer, if you have suffered injuries in a gated community.

Safety Outlook for Older Motorists Improves

Friday, February 27, 2015

They have long been considered one of the most at-risk categories of drivers. However, the safety statistics for senior motorists seems to indicate that the outlook for them has improved significantly.

Make no mistake - motorists have a much higher likelihood of an accident for every mile that they travel, compared to middle-age drivers. However, the overall outlook for this category of motorists has significantly improved over the past 20 years. They are now involved in fewer accidents for every mile that they travel, and also survive accidents at a much higher rate than previous years.

Earlier studies have also indicated significant declines in the number of senior accidents across the United States. In fact, there have been more significant declines reported in the above - 65 group, compared to middle-age drivers. That is attributed to safer vehicles. Senior drivers are now much more likely to drive cars that come with advanced safety technologies that help protect them from injuries in an accident, and help reduce the risk of an accident in the first place.

Besides, older drivers now enjoy better general health than previous generations. That makes them less physically vulnerable to the devastating impact of injuries, and much more likely to survive injuries.

In fact, in certain types of devastating car accidents, like side-impact accidents, there has been significant progress made in keeping senior motorists safer. Declines in the accident fatality risks for drivers above the age of 75, was much larger in the case of side-impact accidents compared to front impact accidents. The risk dropped by approximately 18% for side-impact accidents, compared to 5% for front impact accidents. That could largely be due to the fact that many vehicles now come with side airbags that are designed to protect against these injuries.

Can Voice-Activated Systems Help Prevent Distracted Driving Accidents?

Friday, February 20, 2015

Over the past years, several automakers have introduced voice-activated technologies in their automobiles. These technologies allow motorists to perform a number of actions inside the car, without having to type on a keypad, or take their eyes off the road.

Automakers have claimed that these voice systems help reduce the risk of distractions, and therefore, help prevent the risk of distracted driving accidents. New research seems to indicate that that it is partly true to some extent.

The study was conducted in Boston, and focused on participants between the age of 20 and 66. Approximately 50% of the participants drove a Chevrolet Equinox that came with a MyLink voice-activated system, while the others drove Volvo XC60, equipped with a Senses system.

The study found that the use of all types of voice-activated systems resulted in a reduction in the amount of time that people took their eyes away from the road when using the voice system. The researchers also found that a system with a one-step approach that allowed users to perform actions with a single command was much more effective in helping reduce distractions, than a system that used multiple commands to execute the same function.

However, the use of the voice-activated systems did not completely eliminate distractions. Motorists continued to take their eyes off the steering wheel even when they were dictating commands using the systems. The simple fact is that if you are doing tasks in a car other than driving, you cannot expect that your attention will be unaffected.
