The state of Nevada recorded a minor increase in traffic accident fatalities across the state in 2013. The number of fatalities increased by just one fatality over the previous year.
Last year, according to statistics that were recently revealed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 262 traffic accident fatalities recorded in Nevada. That was an increase from 261 fatalities recorded in 2012.
However, there were other encouraging findings from the data. A total of 79 traffic accident fatalities in 2013 were caused in alcohol-related car accidents. That was a drop from 85 drunk driving accident fatalities the previous year.
Overall, nationwide, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported a significant drop of more than 3% in the number of traffic accident fatalities in 2013, compared to the previous year. In 2013, 32,719 people died in car accidents across the country. That was a drop from 33,782 fatalities in 2012. Overall, there were 1,063 fewer deaths in traffic accidents in 2013, compared to the previous year.
There was also a nationwide drop in the number of injuries recorded, with 2.3 million injuries in 2013, compared to 2.4 million people injured in 2012.
The number of fatalities dropped across all segments of traffic accidents, including passenger vehicle occupants, and large truck occupants. There were also significant decreases in the number of pedestrians, and young motorists involved in accidents, as well as an overall nationwide drop in the number of alcohol-related car accident fatalities.
Most significantly, there was a drop in the number of motorcycle accident fatalities in 2013. Those numbers dropped by approximately 6%, compared to the previous year. Overall, 318 fewer motorcyclists died in accidents in 2013, compared to the previous year.
